Phil Gregory and the the architect he works with have envisioned a unique and stunning use of old boats. The up-side down fishing boats form the roof over the winery which has been dug into the hill side to help maintain proper temperature.
On our first visit to the Vena Cava Winery in Ensenada, the owner Phil Gregory gave us a personal tour and wine tasting. What a great way to end our visit to this property, after relaxing at La Villa Del Valle on our honeymoon and enjoying an epic 5 course dinner at their restaurant Corazón de Tierra the night before.
Phil and Santo Tomas are the only 2 producers of Champagne in the region that we have heard about yet. Vena Cava is producing a small batch in the old style hand made fashion and will be sure to sell out. Get it while you can.
An interesting fact: The 2010 Vena Cava Tempernillo was served at a recent meeting of world leaders in Mexico. and yes, we bought a bottle of it and brought it home.
