An innovator. A tastemaker. A true legend.
DJ Dan was just voted one of the best DJ’s in Los Angeles by LA Times. A record collector at heart, his sound combines the spirit of 70s Disco and Funk with driving House and Techno. His label, InStereo Recordings, one of the Top 10 best selling House labels for 2 years in a row (based on sales), continues to push boundaries and influence the future of dance music as well as to inspire countless DJs and producers. With TJR, Phunk Investigation, Wolfgang Gartner, DJ PP, DJ Sneak, Hatiras, and DJ Dan being amongst the many artists featured on InStereo, the label is hard to ignore in the industry.
Music has been forever entrenched in Dan’s life, having garnered a superior record collection at the age of 8 that would give Amoeba Records a run for its money. Starting his professional musical career with smaller clubs in Seattle and then Los Angeles, DJ Dan had a rise to recognition in the dance music community that could be considered meteoric. He has played alongside fellow legends from Carl Cox to John Digweed with a mission of making club goers dance the night away. Forming the Funky Techno Tribe in 1993, DJ Dan fused together breakbeat, house, dub, and techno to create a sound that later was fittingly crowned, “West Coast House”.
With renowned tracks like “Needle Damage”, and remixes for everyone from Depeche Mode to Duck Sauce, Dan’s production prowess is undeniable. Over the past 2 years Dan has released several “Top 10 House” tracks on Toolroom, InStereo, Pacha, Ultra, Guesthouse and collaborated with Umek, Dj Sneak, Doorly, TJR and Slynk. He is currently one of the highest selling artists on Beatport and his Stereo Damage podcast is a must listen for house music lovers across the globe.
He has continued to exhibit his DJ’ing prowess with performances such as his EDC 2014 set, rated one of the best sets of the weekend byDJOYBEAT.com as well as Magnetic Mag. Similar buzz had Insomniac President/ CEO Pasquale Rotella chiming in, “We go back since the early 90′s and he DJ’d some of my first warehouse parties. He’s an LA underground staple and music legend.”
DJ Dan continues to bring the funk to everything he does from his label to his tracks to his live sets, keeping a busy tour schedule of clubs and festivals across the globe. His extensive musical knowledge creates a soundscape that connects the past, the present and the future unlike any other artist in today’s scene. As this dance music world continues to evolve, it is safe to say that DJ Dan will continue to be one of its strongest voices and most powerful influencers.
